College: Paulson played four seasons of volleyball at Southern Cal. He saw limited action as a freshman and sophomore, then as a junior was 16th nationally in blocks per set (1.01) while getting 91 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. As a senior he increased his blocking average to 1.06 per set, and had 140 kills while hitting .438.
Personal: Paulson comes from an athletic family. His father, Mike, played soccer at Cal State Dominguez Hills and his mother, Fatima, played volleyball at Fresno Pacific. He has twin sisters, Danielle and Natalie, who played soccer at Cal State San Marcos. Additionally one grandfather, Terry McFate, was a football player at UTEP, his grandmother, Frances McFate, was a five-time U.S. National Champion in-line speed skater, and his other grandfather, Johnny Jose, played professional tennis and is in the Philippines Hall of Fame.
