Bio Bits

Winkler grew up in east Germany and began playing volleyball there after she was too tall at the age of four to compete in rhythm gymnastics. She came to the U.S. in 2004 and attended Orange Coast College, where she played for two years. Both seasons OCC won the state championship and she was a two-time MVP of the state tournament in addition to being an All-American.

She goes by the nickname Kiwi more than her given name, Kathrin. She has one older brother, who currently is living in China. Kiwi has a masters she received in Germany in Sports Science (rehabilitation and prevention).
