Personal: Ryan is the youngest of five kids, all of whom played collegiate athletics. Her brother Declan was a lacrosse player at Boston College, while her sister Caleigh played volleyball at Northwestern, sister Teagan competed in curling at Bowdoin College and went to the National Championships, and sister Celia played beach volleyball at Coastal Carolina. Her father B. Kelly and her uncle played football at Yale, while her mother Kathleen swam at Yale. In high school Ryan played three positions in her four years on the indoor volleyball team, starting as a setter before moving to outside hitter and then libero. Her senior team won the state championship with a 22-0 record, and she had 43 digs in the four-set championship match. Ryan ended her career with 934 digs, 504 kills, 487 assists and 143 aces. She also competed one year in swimming.
