Playing his first full-season on the beach, Sorensen competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games on the
United States Indoor Team while being an alternate in 2000. An outside hitter in 2000, Sorensen was on
the United States National Team for nine seasons (1991, 1993-2000). He was named the United States
Olympic Committee’s Volleyball Player of the Year in 1997 when he received the team’s most valuable
player award. Sorensen earned the National Team’s Coaches’ Award in 1993. He ended his career at
Pepperdine as the school’s all-time record holder in kills (2,207), attacks (4,115) and aces (155).
Sorensen earned All-American honors all four seasons at Pepperdine (1990-1993). He led Pepperdine to the
NCAA title in 1992. He was the national freshman of the year in 1990. Born in Racine, Wis., Sorensen
majored in Liberal Arts at Pepperdine. His cousin (Kevin) played for the National Team in numerous
international events, including 1979 Pan American Games and NORCECA Zone Championships, as well as in the
now-defunct, professional International Volleyball Association.
