SANTA BARBARA CONNECTIONS AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Four players with ties to Santa Barbara are competing in the 2001 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Klagenfurt, Austria.
DAX HOLDREN (28) - An alum of Santa Barbara City College, Holdren and his family (wife Jen and two children) have recently moved back to Santa Barbara. Holdren and Todd Rogers are competing in their 79th pro beach event together.
TODD ROGERS (27) - A 1996 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Rogers and Dax Holdren are competing in their 79th pro beach event together. Rogers and his family (wife Melissa and child) reside in Santa Barbara. Only four other teams from the United States have played in more pro beach events together than Rogers and Holdren:

ERIC FONOIMOANA (32) - Like Todd Rogers, Fonoimoana was another standout volleyball at UC-Santa Barbara where he played on a "final four" team in 1988. He graduate from UCSB in 1992. Fonoimoana and Dain Blanton won the Gold Medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Fonoimoana and Blanton rank eighth on the United States list for most events played together on the pro beach volleyball circuits.
ROB HEIDGER (32) - A 2000 beach Olympian for the United States, Heidger is a graduate of UC-Santa Barbara in 1992. He also attended Santa Barbara City College where he starred in basketball.
BACK IN CALIFORNIA - After two weekends off, the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour returns to California for Michelob Light events in Santa Barbara (August 17-19) and Manhattan Beach (August 24-26). The 2001 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour ends in Las Vegas with the Paul Mitchell King and Queen of the Beach competition at the Hard Rock Hotel September 7-9. Echo Entertainment of Studio City, Calif., will be taping the Michelob Light Open at Santa Barbara action for broadcast September 3 on FOX Sports Net.
