Gran Canaria, Spain, 4 July 2001 - The top seeds in the
qualification tournament of the 2001 Spain Open remain undefeated after the
first day of competition. Seeds 1-7 and seed 9 will play in the third round
winners' bracket matches on Thursday July 5th. The undefeated teams are: Maaseide-Glesnes (NOR), Montagnolli-Pichler (AUT), Koutroumanidou-Nikolaidou (GRE), Trussel-Koelliker (SUI), Gougeon-Lessard (CAN), Zambrano-Abreu (VEN), Benoit-Kuhn (SUI), and Rii Seike-Torii (JPN). Over 4,000 spectators enjoyed the beach volleyball matches and the magnificent weather (30C and sunny) at Playa del Ingles. The Spanish team of Carrillo-Carballo are the only team from the host country still alive in the qualification tournament. The second day of qualification begins at 10:00AM. ~FIVB Volleyball Online |
